A museum curator does not create the art works or artifacts in an exhibit. She or he studies an issue, gathers materials from multiple sources (his or her own museum, other museums, private collections), authenticates the materials, groups related items together and provides context (perhaps videos, plaques or an audio track for visitors being guided by headphones). An editor, journalist or content curator performs all those function in assembling digital content for publication on her own site, so curation is the accurate and precise term.

Our community engagement staff here will also have specific skills and tasks that don’t fit in other newsroom jobs, such as reporting and editing. For instance, we will recruit and work with a network of bloggers in our metro area. On some community events that our staff won’t be covering, we will aggregate and curate content provided by the community or provide some platforms for the community to provide the coverage. Where our staff is covering an event, we will supplement that coverage by finding and soliciting community contributions. (Read Full Article)
